Music fans visiting Caravelle Saigon this summer will be forgiven if they think they’ve stepped into a social club in Havana. Saigon Saigon Bar on the rooftop of Caravelle Saigon is welcoming a new star attraction this month, as five-member band Living Cuba prepares to bring a fresh new sizzle and excitement to the storied rooftop watering hole.
All hailing from Cuba and having studied music there, five members of Living Cuba have taken their show on the road to venues around the world to such stops as Jamaica, Angola, Venezuela, South Korea, and have made a reputation for themselves here in Asia playing in Singapore, Malaysia, Cambodia and now Vietnam.
Playing mainly Latin fusion music, the band covers many famous songs from around the world and injects them with Living Cuba’s own unique flavour. The band will get the party going 9:00pm till late every evening from Tuesday to Sunday at Saigon Saigon Bar. “A real Latin party – that’s what we promise our audiences” – said Joel Rodriguez, leader of Living Cuba.
Well-known for its role as a journalist haven during the turbulent conflict period (timeless images adorn the walls), Saigon Saigon Bar still lays claim to one of the city’s most scenic perches above Lam Son Square and Dong Khoi Street. The open-air bar has retained much of its original atmosphere and handsome touches, making it a favourite after-hours venue in the heart of the city (#4 on Trip Advisor as of today).
Saigon Saigon Bar is offering 50% off beverage bill from 4:00pm – 7:00pm with chilled Stella Artois draught now on tap adding another reason to pop upstairs for a beverage or two.
