Green Practices | Caravelle Hotel Ho Chi Minh City

Caravelle Saigon received Vietnam Environmental Award 2015

Keeping up with the success of being the only 5-stars hotel to receive ‘’Ho Chi Minh City Environmental Award 2014’’, Caravelle Saigon has passed other candidates to once again be the unique hotel in the country receiving the ‘’Vietnam Environmental Awards 2015’’ from Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (MONRE), along with other companies and other local organizations in Vietnam.

As the only and official award held every 2 years by MONRE, this is to honor individuals, enterprises, agencies for implementing excellent performances and achievements in contribution to environmental protection, sustainable development and green growth.

Coming off a successful EarthCheck benchmark year with good result, this award is considered as another noteworthy milestone after many years of outstanding effort of the hotel in Environmental conservation such as saving energy, water, consuming eco-friendly chemicals, as well as other outdoor activities (Flashmob, Biking for the Environment, Cleaning up the Beach…) to call on public attention in keeping the place we live clean & green.

Silver certified with EarthCheck since 2011, this historic 56-year-old hotel received the Green Lotus Label in 2012 and also won ASEAN Green Hotel Award for green practices and non-stop activities for the community in 2014.

Consume paper with care

Did you know that 350 million tons of paper is consumed worldwide per year? This equates to the weight of 70 million elephants!

The theme for the 2015 World Environment Day which was held on Friday, 5th June, was "Consume with care".   A large proportion of waste is generated from unnecessary use of paper products. A study by Xerox has shown that 45% of paper used in an average office was binned at the end of each day! These numbers challenge us to consider:  Do We Consume With Care?

Because environmental conservation is the matter of our concern, Caravelle Saigon is making efforts to become an increasingly eco-friendly hotel. We are proud to be the first hospitality property in the country to launch paperless check-in and check-out option for eco-minded guests. A paper saving campaign throughout the Hotel has also been carried out in the past 5 years as a commitment and determination in our answer: Yes we care!

Silver certified with EarthCheck since 2011, this historic 56-year-old hotel received Vietnam Environmental Award 2015, HCMC Environmental Award 2014, ASEAN Green Hotel 2014 for implementing excellent performances and achievements in contribution to environmental protection, sustainable development and green growth.

What are you doing to consume paper with care?

Caravelle Calls Attention to World Environment Day 2015 With Downtown Flashmob

Friends and staff members of Caravelle Saigon Hotel kicked up their heels on the steps of Ho Chi Minh City’s historic Opera House last weekend, in a show of support for greater action on environmental issues.

At promptly 09:00am on 31st May, 80 associates of Caravelle Saigon stormed the steps of the Opera House in a high-energy Flashmob, drawing a crowd of appreciative motorists and pedestrians who cheered and shimmied in time to the music. The dancers performed four songs in quick succession, before fanning out to encourage bystanders to take personal action to protect the planet.

In addition to the song-and-dance routine, Caravelle Saigon also made a show of donating seven waste bins to the grounds around the Opera House to further promote proper waste segregation in the centre of Ho Chi Minh City.

The activity, which was timed to focus attention to the upcoming World Environment Day on 5th June, was Caravelle’s second Flashmob in the Heart of Saigon, and the most recent in a series of public actions the hotel has taken over the years in support of World Environment Day.

Considered one of Vietnam’s leading eco-conscious properties, Caravelle Saigon picked up its third ASEAN Green Hotel Award for sustainable practises at the close of 2014, and has held EarthCheck’s Silver Certification since 2011. The hotel was the first to introduce eco-friendly meeting packages and paperless check-in and check-out within Vietnam, and has implemented numerous green initiatives such as waste water recycling, installing LED lights and the use of biodegradable cleaning products.

World Environment Day is the United Nation’s chief vehicle for promoting worldwide awareness and action for the environment. This year’s theme, “Consume with Care”, focuses on the need for sustainable lifestyles, highlighting each individual’s responsibility to reduce unnecessary consumption and care for Earth.
