You haven’t really tasted Saigon until you’ve tasted a banh mi. Crunchy, soft, light and incredibly satisfying all at the same time, banh mi packs a lot of punch into a little package. This humble sandwich is as iconic as Vietnam’s conical hats and motorcycle-filled streets. That’s why we’ve made it the newest addition to our breakfast buffet at Nineteen.
Your typical banh mi starts with an airy rice and wheat flour baguette. The protein inside can be anything from omelets to cold cuts to fried fish patties. The bread is given a generous scrape of chicken liver pate, an artful layer of sliced cucumbers, some pickled daikon and carrot, a few sprigs of bright cilantro, fresh chili and a drizzle of soy to finish.
For many Vietnamese, mornings start by pulling up alongside a favourite vendor, calling out an order, and hooking the bag of freshly made banh mi onto the bike for quick consumption later. Our new, mini-banh mi station brings a bit of this culinary magic to you at the Caravelle. Add a little local flavour to your plate: pick up a ready-made banh mi, or create your own with the help of our staff.
